The key to forgiveness lies in understanding — in the understanding that nothing in this world is accidental. Even one leaf of grass is not going to move without the Divine will.
If someone upsets us, or something happens to us, the reason is never solely in the said person or circumstance – they are merely the vessels, which carry out the Creator’s will. But the Creator does not bring hardships because they like to see us suffer – quite the opposite! Unfortunately, only through suffering do humans really learn, really think of the meaning of life and the sources of suffering – in the same way as a naughty child only learns through being punished.
And in the exact same way that a child’s protest only causes more severe punishment, our discontent and misery only inflict more troubles. Up until the point where we understand – Everything is already for the better.
It says in Ayurveda: “Outside of us is only Goodness – all the Evil is inside.” Meaning, all the events, people, and our environment in general serve one purpose – to bring us closer to God, to accumulate Divine Love and to purify our minds. And the more evil we carry inside the more radical are the means..
Now I want to talk to you about this issue on the level of the mind – before we were talking on the spiritual level.
In Vedas it says that a conditioned living being (soul expressed in a material body) has 4 imperfections:
- its feelings are imperfect
- it falls into illusion
- it is likely to deceive
- it makes mistakes
As you can see, any man, no matter how great, makes mistakes. Can we really hate somebody for making a mistake? During our lives we are wrong many, many times.
If we get upset with everyone who makes mistakes, the hate will spread to every single person, including ourselves.
When blaming others, we very often put ourselves in their position only externally, but we can never be sure that in their circumstances we would act any differently.
«How can I learn to forgive?» — Stop judging and criticizing others and you won’t need to forgive anyone.
